Turnham Green to Victoria is 20 minutes, with 12 District trains an hour. Zone 1-3 fares, the Chiswick station platform trap and the last trains home.
Chiswick does not have a commuter station in the way that a town outside London does. It has six of them, on three different networks, and which one you use changes your journey time, your fare and in one case whether you get to Waterloo in half an hour or an hour. This page sets out what each option actually gives you, using Transport for London’s own timetable and fare data read in August 2026.
The six stations and what each is for
| Station | Zone | Lines | Typical time to central London |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turnham Green | 2/3 | District (Piccadilly late night only) | 20 min to Victoria |
| Chiswick Park | 3 | District (Ealing Broadway branch) | 25 min to Green Park |
| Stamford Brook | 2 | District | 19 min to Victoria |
| Gunnersbury | 3 | District (Richmond branch), Overground Mildmay line | Change at Turnham Green or ride the Mildmay line north |
| Chiswick (rail) | 3 | South Western Railway | 28 min to Waterloo, or 58 min, see below |
| Kew Bridge | 3 | South Western Railway | 31 min to Waterloo |
Journey times are from Transport for London’s journey planner for an 08:00 weekday departure. Zones are from TfL’s own station records.
The District line is the spine
For most of Chiswick, the answer is the District line, and the reason is frequency rather than speed. Transport for London’s published timetable shows 12 eastbound trains an hour from Turnham Green towards central London, every hour of the day from 06:00 to midnight, on weekdays and at weekends alike. That is a train every five minutes, which means you do not check a timetable, you just walk to the station.
From Turnham Green the District runs to Victoria in 20 minutes, Paddington in 24 with one change, and King’s Cross in 32. Green Park takes 22 if you change to the Piccadilly at Hammersmith. Bank is the awkward one at 38 minutes, because the District’s City branch stops at Monument and you finish on foot.
Chiswick Park sits one stop further out on the Ealing Broadway branch and adds about five minutes and, as it happens, 20p to your fare. Stamford Brook, at the Hammersmith end, is a full Zone 2 station and the quickest of the three.
The Piccadilly line quirk everyone gets caught by
Turnham Green has Piccadilly line platforms, and Piccadilly trains run through them all day at speed without stopping. Reading TfL’s own timetable data for the station, the Piccadilly calls at Turnham Green only from about 22:30 until the end of service, and again until about 06:50 in the morning.
There is one exception worth knowing. On Friday and Saturday nights the Piccadilly keeps calling at Turnham Green right through the small hours: the timetable shows 33 southbound Night Tube departures between midnight and 04:00 on a Friday night. If you are coming home from central London at 02:00 at the weekend, Turnham Green works. On a Tuesday at 02:00 it does not.
Chiswick station: the platform decides your journey
Chiswick station, at the Grove Park end, is on South Western Railway’s Hounslow Loop, and the loop is a circle. Trains from platform 1 run the short way into Waterloo through Barnes and Putney and take 28 to 29 minutes. Trains from platform 2 go the other way round the loop, out through Brentford, Isleworth and Hounslow before doubling back, and take 58 minutes to an hour to reach the same terminus.
Both are perfectly ordinary Waterloo trains. Both show “London Waterloo” on the board. On a Wednesday morning the 07:59 from platform 1 gets in at 08:28, and the 08:02 from platform 2 gets in at 09:02, three minutes later off the platform and 34 minutes later into town. If you take one thing from this page, take that.
Off-peak the service settles into a clean pattern: two trains an hour from platform 1, at 29 and 59 minutes past, 29 minutes to Waterloo. In the morning peak there are three or four. The last train back from Waterloo leaves at 23:52 and reaches Chiswick at 00:17.
What it costs in 2026
Fares below are Transport for London’s adult rates, effective from 4 July 2026, read from the TfL fares data in August 2026.
| Journey | Off-peak | Peak |
|---|---|---|
| Turnham Green to Green Park or Bank | £3.10 | £3.60 |
| Chiswick Park to Green Park | £3.30 | £3.90 |
| Chiswick or Kew Bridge to Waterloo | £3.70 | £4.60 |
| Brentford to Waterloo (Zone 4) | £4.00 | £5.30 |
Peak means Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00. Everything else, including all weekend, is off-peak.
Two things are worth pulling out. First, Turnham Green is cheaper than Chiswick Park on the same journey, by 20p off-peak and 30p at peak, because it is a Zone 2/3 boundary station and the fare is charged from Zone 2. Over a year of commuting that is real money for a five-minute walk. Second, the South Western Railway route to Waterloo costs more than the Tube for a slower journey, so it only makes sense if Waterloo, Putney or Barnes is where you actually need to be.
Travelcards and caps
If you commute daily, the cap and the Travelcard matter more than the single fare.
| Ticket | Zones 1-3 (most of Chiswick) | Zones 1-2 (Stamford Brook, Turnham Green) |
|---|---|---|
| Daily cap | £10.50 | £8.90 |
| 7 day Travelcard | £52.50 | £44.70 |
| Monthly Travelcard | £201.60 | £171.70 |
| Annual Travelcard | £2,100 | £1,788 |
An annual Zone 1-3 Travelcard at £2,100 is the number to hold in your head when you are comparing Chiswick with somewhere further out. It is the cost of unlimited travel across the zones that contain almost everywhere anyone in this borough works. For comparison, that is roughly what a season ticket from a commuter town 40 miles out costs for the train alone, before the Tube.
Whether Turnham Green counts as Zone 2 or Zone 3 for your Travelcard depends on which zone you also need. If your whole journey stays inside Zones 1 and 2, buy Zones 1-2 and save £312 a year.
Getting to Heathrow
The airport is the other journey that defines this borough. From Chiswick, the practical route is the Piccadilly line from Hammersmith or Acton Town, which means one change from Turnham Green or Chiswick Park in the daytime, since the Piccadilly does not stop at Turnham Green between about 07:00 and 22:30. The Elizabeth line from Paddington is faster once you are at Paddington, but getting to Paddington from Chiswick eats the saving.
