Secondary applications for September 2027 close at midnight on 31 October. Chiswick School's last distance offered in 2025 was 1.576 miles, for 240 places.

Parents of Year 6 children in Chiswick have six weeks left to name a secondary school.

Hounslow Council confirmed on 18 September that applications are open for places starting in September 2027. The secondary deadline is the tight one. It is midnight on Saturday 31 October 2026, and the council’s own timetable says anything after that is treated as late and is only looked at once every on-time application has been placed.

You apply through the council whichever borough the schools are in, as long as you live in Hounslow. You can name six schools, and the council’s advice is blunt: use all six.

The dates, in one place

For a Year 7 place in September 2027 (children born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016), the council’s application timetable gives:

  • 31 October 2026, midnight: applications close
  • 1 March 2027: offer day
  • 15 March 2027: deadline to accept the offer
  • 15 April 2027: deadline to appeal

For a reception place in September 2027 (children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023), the primary timetable gives:

  • 15 January 2027: applications close
  • 16 April 2027: offer day
  • 30 April 2027: deadline to accept
  • 18 May 2027: deadline to appeal

Reception and Year 3: apply by 15 January 2027, offer day 16 April 2027, accept by 30 April 2027. You may name six schools. Chiswick School's last distance offered in 2025 was 1.576 miles.

The same January and April dates apply to the infant to junior transfer into Year 3. That one matters in Chiswick because Strand on the Green Infant and Nursery School is one of only three schools in the borough whose Year 2 children have to make a fresh application to move up. The other two are Feltham Hill and Norwood Green.

What the register shows about Chiswick School

The most useful thing the council publishes is not the press release. It is the record of how places were actually handed out, and for Chiswick parents it makes the odds plain.

For September 2025 entry, Chiswick School had 240 places and 826 applications across all preferences. After looked-after children, siblings and SEN allocations were taken out, 155 places went on distance, and the last distance offered was 1.576 miles.

The other schools within reach of W4 in that round:

School Places Applications Last distance offered
Chiswick School 240 826 1.576 miles
Gunnersbury Catholic School 184 631 no distance places shown
Brentford School for Girls 157 326 all distance applicants offered
Lampton School 240 1,116 1.175 miles
The Heathland School 270 1,160 1.030 miles
St Mark’s Catholic School 186 1,031 0.712 miles, Hounslow deanery

Two things follow from that table. Brentford School for Girls offered a place to every distance applicant in that round, so it is not a wasted preference.

The two Catholic schools work differently. Gunnersbury Catholic filled all 184 places on its faith criteria, 150 of them baptised Catholics holding a Certificate of Catholic Practice, and its table shows no places allocated on distance at all. At St Mark’s, the 0.712 miles above is the last distance offered within the Hounslow deanery to baptised Catholics with that same certificate. Its other deaneries stretched much further: Hillingdon 3.873 miles, Upper Thames 5.487 miles and Ealing 5.509 miles.

One caution the council makes itself: the data changes every year and should be used as a guide. It is also not current. The newest figures on the council’s allocation page are for September 2025 entry. Nothing has been published for the round that made offers in March 2026, so anyone applying this autumn is working from numbers two admission rounds old.

Open evenings still to come

The council’s open evening schedule lists 17 secondary schools. Several have already been and gone, including Cranford Community College on 10 September, Lampton on 15 September, Green School for Girls on 16 September and Bolder Academy on 17 September. These are still ahead of the deadline:

  • The Heathland School: 21 September, 5.30pm to 8.30pm
  • Green School for Boys: 22 September, 5pm to 7.30pm
  • Isleworth & Syon School for Boys: 22 September, 5.45pm to 8pm
  • Brentford School for Girls: 23 September, 6pm to 8.30pm
  • Gunnersbury Catholic School: 23 September, 5pm to 7.30pm
  • St Mark’s Catholic School: 24 September, 5pm to 8pm
  • Rivers Academy West London: 24 September, 5.30pm to 8pm
  • Springwest Academy: 24 September, 6pm to 8pm
  • Gumley House School FCJ: 28 September, 5pm to 8pm
  • Heston Community School: 29 September, 6pm to 7.30pm
  • Chiswick School: 30 September, sessions at 5.30pm and 6.30pm
  • Reach Academy Hanworth Park: 30 September, 5.30pm to 7pm
  • Lift Kingsley: 1 October, 5pm to 7pm

If you are travelling across the borough for one of these on a weekday evening, our roadworks and travel page has the current closures.

One date on the council’s own site is wrong

Two of the council’s pages have not caught up with its own announcement.

The infant to junior transfer page still describes the round that has already finished. It is headed “Infant to junior transfer for September 2026”, tells parents applications open on 1 September 2025, and gives a closing date of 15 January 2026, a deadline that passed eight months ago. The section’s landing page repeats it, offering an application “for a place starting September 2026”.

The correct dates for this year’s Year 3 round are the ones on the timetable page above: open now, closing 15 January 2027, offers on 16 April 2027.

There is a second discrepancy. The council’s news release describes the Year 2 children who need to apply as “born between 1 September 2019 and 31 October 2020”. Every other Hounslow admissions page uses a 1 September to 31 August school year. If your child’s birthday falls in September or October 2020, do not assume either way. Ring the admissions team and get it in writing.

What it means for you

  • Apply online through eAdmissions, linked from the council’s school admissions pages. One application covers all six of your preferences.
  • Check whether any of your six needs a supplementary information form. Faith schools usually do, and a main application on its own will not get you ranked in their faith criteria.
  • You need proof of address. The distance criterion is measured from your home, and Chiswick School’s 2025 cut-off of 1.576 miles is the number to measure against.
  • The School Admissions Team is on 020 8583 2711 or 020 8583 2721, or admissions@hounslow.gov.uk.
  • Distance criteria and house prices pull in the same direction here. Our Chiswick house prices page tracks what the Land Registry says about the area month by month.
